My favorite film in quite a while, Guillaume Canet’s “Little White Lies” combines elements from such generation-defining art-pop hits as “The Big Chill” and “Four Weddings and a Funeral.” Highbrows may put it down not altogether without reason for being sentimental, visually mundane and, in the case of one unfortunate subplot, justifiably rap it as contrived. But who needs visual fireworks when you can just shoot a close-up of Marion Cotillard?
